Castelvetrano is situated on the road leading to Selinunte. The Museo Civico, its main attraction, houses the Efebo di Selinunte, a bronze statue representing a young man created in the 5th century BC. Another attraction is its Teatro Selinu erected in the 19th century by Giovanni Battista Basile resembling Teatro Massimo of Palermo, his best work , yet in a smaller scale. The theatre occupied the site where there was a hotel which hosted Goethe in 1787. Visitors can visit the courtyard where the outlaw Salvatore Giuliani’s died in 1950.
